Our Story

We are story-finders and storytellers.

Helping executives get their greatest ideas out of their heads and into the world.

We’ve been in your shoes.

We used to hire expensive agencies and pay them exorbitant fees. They were expensive. Kind of arrogant. And we didn’t always get the A-Team. (But the holiday gifts they sent were nice.)

H A R D A W A Y is different.

We are a small collection of creative freelancers who reject the tyranny of marketing-as-usual.

We work for ourselves because we CAN, because we are damn good at what we do, and because our clients always come back for more.

We churn out extremely high-caliber brand strategy, content marketing, points of view, print design, and digital experiences -- for new brands and existing ones.

At the helm is Chelsea Hardaway, former client of agencies, and someone with a deep understanding of the business imperative for marketing. Surrounding her are the best creative resources in the Bay Area and beyond.

We remain small and agile: a creative co-op, if you will, with a vast membership. So you get nothing but the most talented creative resources. At a price you can afford.

Chelsea is an executive creative director known for using design and story to create industry breakthroughs.

With 20+ years' experience in-house (as CMO) and on the agency side (doing brand strategy, design, CEO communications, and thought leadership/content creation), she loves to help Fortune 500s and startups tell their stories with authenticity and intrigue.

She writes and designs, but her real specialty is finding unconventional creative solutions to big strategic challenges. She often acts as an “outsourced CMO,” serving as a marketing advisor to CEOs and executives.

Chelsea won a CLIO for the Bullfighter anti-jargon software and is co-author of Why Business People Speak Like Idiots (Free Press, 2005).

Her work has been featured on CNN and CNBC, as well as in Business Week, USA Today, and the New York Times. She is an avid dog lover, an average yoga student, and lives in the Bay Area coastal town of Montara.

I was raised in a Geodesic dome on the side of an Arizona mountain. We were so far off the grid, we baked our bread in solar ovens and composted our own soil. I emerged surprisingly normal, but every so often, I like to shake up corporate America and flash my wild hippie side.
